COLOUR THEORY

WHAT IS COLOUR THEORY?

Colour theory is a fundamental part of the fashion industry. Almost all outfits throughout fashion history are based on colour theory. To understand fashion properly, we must understand how colours work on the human mind and how they make us look attractive, stylish, and fashionable.

Colour theory explains how colours work on clothes. It is often represented using a colour circle. While it does not completely depend on a circular shape, the colour wheel helps in choosing fashion combinations. It focuses on the use of bright and dark colours and how they can be mixed together.

Examples of colour combinations:

  • Red + Black
  • Yellow + Blue

These colour combinations became popular worldwide and are widely used in the fashion industry, especially in gowns, women’s wear, and even men’s wear. They are often worn during festivals or special occasions to show the richness of culture and tradition.

Now let us understand who discovered colour theory. You may not believe it, but colour theory was first discovered by one of the greatest physics scientists, Isaac Newton. He introduced the first colour theory, which shows his level of excellence as a scientist. His contribution is not limited to science alone but has also influenced the fashion industry.

COLOUR THEORY IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY

The fashion industry is one of the most famous and demanding industries in the world. People always want something new to wear, even when they reuse old clothes. In such situations, colour theory helps people restyle old outfits and create new looks.

In today’s world, many people prefer a colourless style by wearing only black, white, and grey to represent minimalism, higher values, or a classy lifestyle. Colour theory helps people choose suitable colours for their outfits and understand how to design and style clothing effectively.

HOW DOES COLOUR THEORY WORK?

Colour theory works on the relationship between colour, the human body, and psychological impact. It is a framework that guides how colours interact with the body and mind. It explains how different colours work together and how contrasting colours create visual balance.

HOW DOES COLOUR THEORY WORK ON THE HUMAN BODY?

Colour theory is one of the most important elements in all types of industries because it helps connect with human emotions. Vibrant colours entering the fashion industry and environment represent richness and energy.

Colour theory also works on animals, including marine animals such as whales and sharks. However, that is not our main topic. What is important to understand is how deeply colour theory affects our world.

Nature itself shows us the best colour combinations. Even sunlight consists of seven colours, representing the richness of nature. This motivates humans to create more colour combinations and make the world more vibrant and classy.

HOW IS COLOUR THEORY IMPLEMENTED IN THE CURRENT FASHION INDUSTRY?

In the modern fashion industry, the demand for new outfits is continuously increasing. Colours play a major role in making fashion a global industry. Colours are adaptable, and humans are creative enough to assign meanings to them.

For example, people decided decades ago to wear black or white during funerals and white during weddings. These traditions show how colour theory is deeply embedded in culture and fashion.

COLOUR THEORY IN NATURE

Nature is beautiful by itself and does not need any additions. The perfect alignment of colours in nature creates calmness and peace, especially when we feel stressed or anxious.

Colour theory is not a big topic for nature because nature already follows it naturally, such as during the spring season in Japan.

INDIAN COLOUR THEORY

India is one of the oldest countries in the world and is known for its rich heritage. India has its own pink city and blue city, which show how important colours are in Indian history and culture.

India has its own fashion styles, such as sarees and kurtas, which are colourful and stylish. Each state in India uses specific prints and colours that represent its cultural richness.

RAJASTHAN PRINT CULTURE AND COLOUR COMBINATIONS

Rajasthan is the largest state in India and is deeply connected to its culture. The people of Rajasthan strongly preserve the richness and colourful traditions created by their ancestors. They continue to make their culture more stylish by using unique prints and colour combinations.

ASSAM CULTURE OF COLOURS

Assam is a northeastern state of India and is known for its beautiful use of colours in its culture. Red and white are commonly used, along with unique prints and clothing styles.

Traditional outfits include printed sarees and men’s kurtas. Men also wear a unique garment called a dhoti, which is a beige-coloured embroidered cloth wrapped around the legs.

India’s rich culture does not end here. India has 27 states, and each state has its own style and culture. People oft then say that if you start exploring India corner by corner, your entire life would be spent exploring India alone.
